Jaxson’s birth story

My delivery with Jaxson went a little differently than with Mady, my first. I was only 38 weeks when I had him and it was a bit of a surprise to me. I went to my weekly appointment on the 9th and my blood pressure was a little high and there was some protein in my urine. So, my doctor sent me home with a jug to pee in. Yes, I had to pee all day/night in this jug and then place said jug in our refrigerator. It was weird. I will never forget that part because of how off putting this was to my germaphobe husband. Haha.

The next day I had to bring back the jug to the doctor for testing. I knew, that there was a slight possibility she would admit me to labor and delivery but I really didn’t think it would happen. Those things usually don’t happen to me. I will get all excited and plan on having a baby and then go home and NOT have a baby. So, I didn’t get my hopes up. I had my grandma come with me to the appointment that day to help with Mady. I awkwardly carry this clear jug of pee in the office and try to discreetly pass it off to the receptionist to give to the doctor or nurse or whoever needed it!

We went back and I can’t remember exactly what happened but my blood pressure was still high and my Doctor didn’t like my pee results apparently. She told me that she was admitting me today and we’re going to have a baby and I was completely surprised. Then, the stress set in. Greg was at work. I didn’t have my stuff. I wasn’t ready like I should be! I mean, I was really excited but this was not my plan! I called Greg and he immediately left work and came to the hospital. Actually, I’m pretty sure he went home to get some stuff for us and changed but my memory is terrible! I do remember my grandma driving me to the hospital and running up on a curb and scaring the poop out of me though! (I’m a terrible back seat driver, haha.)

We got in the hospital and I was admitted. It was my grandma, Mady and myself in this room and now that I think about it I can’t believe I didn’t have Greg go with me to the appointment!  Oh, well. I knew next time when I had Rowan – Greg comes to all weekly appointments! Just because you never know. No worries though because I’m sure that just made my grandmas day. She got to be in on the excitement of everything.

We got to the hospital around noon that day. We let everyone know that they were going to induce me and get things going a little faster. My labor with Mady was about 19 hours so I wasn’t sure how this one would go. I was started on pitocin shortly after getting to the hospital and being admitted. Once the pitocin kicked in the contractions began to get pretty intense. I ended up asking for my epidural around 3 centimeters. After that I was much better! I could relax. I remember only feeling numb on one side and I panicked a little. I’ve heard so many stories about people feeling everything on one side. I told the nurse and she calmed me and made me feel like it wasn’t a big deal. Which, now looking back. I think I was just terrified of the pain! (Props to the all natural women! I would like to try that next time, but we will see!)

Hours went by and I still was only at about 6cm. They checked me and not too long after they checked me I felt it. The pressure! It was like Jaxson just fell right down and was ready! I quickly told the nurse that it was time and she checked and sure enough I went from 6cm to 10cm in no time! The nurses and Doctor rushed in and I think I pushed for about 15 minutes and at 11:38 pm Jaxson was here! He was placed right on my chest and he was so perfect! I fell in love with him right then and there. It all happened so quickly I felt a little in shock that it was already over with. My mom was supposed to be in the delivery room but she didn’t make it in time. I progressed so quickly compared to with Mady so no one really expected him to come so soon.

After he was born and we had a few minutes together they took him over to the other side of the room to weigh him and measure him. Then, he was brought right back to me for kangaroo care. I remember him laying on my chest crying. A lot. So, right then I latched him and he began to breastfeed. He was such a perfect little baby. By the time I had him Mady had already went to her grandma’s to stay that night. When she left I was only about 6cm and it was already well past her bedtime. All of the grandparents got to come in and meet Jaxson that night after I had him and the next morning Mady was brought to meet her baby brother!

Now here we are almost 4 years later and we have the smartest, most outgoing loveable boy I could have ever imagined. When we found out he was a boy, I didn’t know what to expect. I grew up around all girls so this boy thing was like a whole new world to me. I could have never imagined the deep love I feel for this little boy. He holds a special place in my heart and I couldn’t imagine my life without him. A mother’s love for her son is indescribable and I am so lucky to call him my son. Even on the bad days he finds a way to melt my heart like never before. He is truly one in a million and I hope to raise him to be the perfect man, husband and father just like his own Daddy.

We love you, Jaxson.
